How old is your toothbrush

Learn more. How old is the toothbrush? When did it start? And now? More news…. Dental products expire just like any other bathroom products. Toothpaste tubes have an expiration date on them so be sure to check your tubes to see if they are still good. Maybe this year, it would be a good idea to go through your bathroom and assess your dental products.

How is your toothbrush looking? Did you know that we should replace our toothbrush every few months or whenever it starts to look worn? I try to remember to replace my toothbrush every time I visit the dentist at least every six months but sometimes I replace it sooner if the bristles start to flatten out. A bonus is that my dentist gives me a new toothbrush whenever I have my teeth cleaned so that helps remind me to switch to the new brush.

And remember it is very important to use a soft bristled toothbrush. These toothbrushes look just like adult-sized toothbrushes but are smaller so they can fit in little hands more easily. Soft bristles are gentle on the gums and still get the job done in a more kid-friendly manner. A good rule of thumb is that until they can tie their own shoes, an adult should supervise and assist as needed.

This can be a great way to get them excited about brushing twice a day if they need some extra motivation. Whether your child loves princesses, puppies, or superheroes, you can find an electric toothbrush that will make brushing twice a day more enjoyable for kids. By adding the fun elements of sounds, lights, or characters, your kids may actually look forward to brushing their teeth.

If you want to keep it simple and continue using a kid-sized manual toothbrush instead of making the switch to an electric toothbrush, they both will do the trick!

An electric toothbrush is also a great alternative if your child builds up plaque easily or if there are visible stains on their teeth. In addition to an appropriately sized toothbrush, make sure that floss, mouthwash, and toothpaste with fluoride are in supply.

How old is your toothbrush? When was the last time you changed your toothbrush? Of course, if you use an electric toothbrush, you just need to replace the head for a fresh one.
